In My Absence

Emergency Rooms.
Urgent Care.
Antibiotics.
Fevers.
You name it.
This time, it was a massive headache.

Without fail, Eden gets very sick every time I leave for an extended period of time (minimum of three days). Seriously, every time. So I had to write about it.

Do you know of similar stories? Maybe your kid, or kids you know have severe separation anxiety? It was weird when we realized our daughter’s body went through various symptoms whenever I was away for days or weeks at a time. This time I made sure to tell her, “Don’t act crazy or get sick while I’m gone.” Hahahahahahaha! I really did that. And no ER trips! Yay!

I hope those episodes are over, but that says something to me about the affect proximity has on relationships. My daughter and I are super, close buddies. When we aren’t together, I can feel it. She can feel it too. I’m not surprised when I get a call where I have to talk with her about her behavior, hundreds of miles away. I’d love to hear if you have similar experiences. Bonds are strong. I have heard that pets even go bonkers sometimes when there’s a disconnect.

It makes me think of what it feels like when we’re out of the presence of God for too long. We may not get hives or develop swollen lymph nodes (like Eden), but I can definitely feel a difference.

Scripture says, “…in His presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” –Psalm 16:11

This scripture is a great compass for me. When I’m not joyful, it’s a great indicator that I need to get intimate with God. I hope this helps you.

Until next time…
